Are you passionate about supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, and development? Whether you're starting a new career, recently completed an Education or Early Years qualification, or bring experience from care, healthcare, or children’s support roles, we would love to hear from you. Previous experience of working within a school or nursery setting with experience of social emotional mental health needs is desirable but not essential.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Banwell Primary School, a friendly, community‑focused village school committed to helping every child thrive.

About Banwell Primary School

Join our vibrant team at Banwell Primary School, where dedication and commitment bring our school to life every day. As a small village school with a strong sense of community, we pride ourselves on knowing every child and building meaningful relationships across our school family.

Our staff work tirelessly to nurture each pupil as an individual, providing enriching learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Working within a smaller school means collaboration is at the heart of everything we do, staff share ideas, support each other, and grow together.

As part of our wider trust, you will also access excellent training, professional development pathways, and collaboration opportunities with colleagues from other schools.

If you are passionate about making a real difference and helping children flourish, Banwell Primary School is the perfect place to build your career.

About the role

We are looking for a proactive and compassionate learning support assistant to provide 1:1 SEND support and small‑group interventions across a range of year groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • Deliver small‑group sessions to build confidence, independence, and core skills
  • Work with children across different year groups
  • Assist with personal care, when required
  • Build positive, nurturing relationships with pupils and families
  • Formal qualifications are helpful, but a caring, proactive mindset is what matters most.

We’d love to hear from you if you are:

  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and full of positivity
  • Able to empower children and help them grow in confidence
  • Calm, patient, and compassionate, especially in moments of challenge
  • Motivated to contribute to a warm, inclusive school environment
  • We welcome applicants with school experience and those with personal experience supporting children with SEND.

Why Join Banwell Primary School?

Banwell Primary School is committed to delivering high‑quality education rooted in curiosity, independence, and child‑centred learning.

At Banwell, we:

  • Encourage children to become curious, independent thinkers
  • Promote respect, resilience, and personal achievement
  • Work closely with families to support each child holistically
  • See every member of staff as a key advocate for our pupils

What We Offer

  • Above‑average pension contributions
  • Five paid carer’s days (pro rata)
  • A strong commitment to staff wellbeing, inclusion, and professional development
  • Supportive leadership and clear career‑growth pathways
  • Opportunities for additional development through our trust
  • Join a supportive school where pupils and staff grow, achieve, and make a real difference—together.
